Uchimizu refers to the sprinkling of water in Japanese gardens and streets. In streets in summer, it serves to cool the immediate area, keep down dust and also please neighbors. In Japan, uchimizu had been done to purify the place from ancient times.
In recent years, the Japanese government has also encouraged the uchimizu to reduce global warming. Uchimizu ceremonies have increased in which people wearing yukata sprinkle water in Japanese traditional style.
